The Great Barrier Reef is home to hundreds of starfish species, many featuring vibrant colours such as the common Blue Starfish. They are not only beautiful in appearance, but they also help keeping up the balance of the marine ecosystem.
The scientific name for a starfish is Asteroidea. Aster means star while eidos means likeness. Put the words together and it portrays the starfish for what they truly are. They resemble the typical image of the stars in the sky.
In addition to their novel body shape, starfish have another remarkable trait - regeneration. Many species can lose an arm or two to elude a predator’s grasp or to distract the predator. Interestingly not only will the animal regenerate the lost limb but a limb may also regenerate an entirely new animal.
Our Starfish Collection is available in beautiful shades of white, glacier blue and turquoise cast glass. The glass also features the ridges and bumps of the starfish’s exoskeleton, making the collection incredibly tactile.
